Like many, I run with music. It’s not my preferred, but music keeps a good cadence and podcasts can’t keep me higher than 170 steps per minute..
I also use the Zombies, Run! app to overlay a story but that’s not the point of this article.
My run list has 2 hours and 7 minutes of music. As of today, my watch predicts I’ll run the half marathon at the Ballarat Marathon in 2 hours and 25 minutes. I need more songs.
The criteria for new songs is pretty loose. Makes me smile ranks a song higher than 170bpm. Genre? Meh, I don’t care.
What’s already on my playlist?
Unfortunately this version of WordPress doesn’t let me embed the list fully. So here’s a link to play it.
There are some absolute favourites of favourites here.
- Warrior Face is the most inspirational song to be ever cut from a movie.
- Evil Like Me is performed by the brilliantly talented Dove Cameron and Kristin Chenoweth but also reminds me of my mother. She would have loved me as a mini-me with all her conspiracy ideas. Alas I know science and critical thinking.
- Ride was always just a nice to have, but yesterday I matched my steps to the beat and threw a 4-minute speed interval into my long run.
- One Way or Another is the only one, that I know of, with questionable lyrics. But it’s empowering too and taking back control from the stalker. I will not be adding anything by Rick Astley to the list. Have you listened to Never Going to Give You Up? Where’s the respect and consent there?
- Inflation is a catchy song with excellent lyrics. I recommend you check out the story behind it too.
There are stories behind some others, but this site is only semi-secret, not fully secret.
What else should I add?

I just like the way this theme displays code. I thought the widget would embed the code. Alas, but it stays if you want to embed the playlist or just admire how pretty the style is.
