Turning a half marathon into a walk in the park

Literally.

This morning I was meant to run my first half marathon. My only half marathon really because hitting the distance is more a tick the box achievement, not a lifelong plan.

Regardless of the ‘why’, being injured meant a different goal for today. Today I tested how long I could walk with no pain.

It’s 3.34km.

While it’s not 21.1km, I’m still happy with it. My leg’s slightly irritated but just what’s typical for a leg that’s barely been used for 2 months.

The 3.34km walk

I chose a lap of Blackburn Lake because it’s close, and mostly gravel paths, and one of my favourite places. My wedding was scheduled there until a heatwave forced a last-minute relocation.

It was beautiful being back at the lake too. There’s new signage. Maybe I’ll make it clockwise next time without getting lost.

It’s not a half marathon

True. A 3.34km stroll is not a half marathon along the St Kilda beachfront. But for the effort and lead up to get this far is just as much an achievement.

I don’t mind missing the race. I don’t know if it’s because I just wanted to check it off the list or if I’ve been away from running so long it’s just acceptance.

Either way, it was a very nice walk in the park.
